HIRANANDANI HOSPITAL VASHI- A FORTIS NETWORK HOSPITAL LAUNCHES NAVI MUMBAI’s 1st ‘POST COVID-19 REHABILITATION PROGRAM’

 

The program aims to help patients who’ve beaten COVID-19 by identifying and treating possible long term after-effects through comprehensive evaluation &continuous assessment

NaviMumbaikar’s continue to embrace the lockdown restrictions during a time when the COVID-19 pandemic rages on. While many have overcome and beaten the infection due to the steadfast efforts by the local civic body and astute medical interventions by healthcare frontliners, Coronavirus continues to impact every aspect of our lives. With an aim to tackle the long term implications of COVID-19 in patients who have beaten the infection, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi- A Fortis Network Hospital launched Navi Mumbai’s 1st ‘Post COVID-19 Rehabilitation Program’, today.

Prolonged fatigue, drastically lowered Lung capacity, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has been observed in patients who have overcome COVID-19,therefore clinical and psychological evaluation is the cornerstone of rehabilitation in these patients. Through the ‘Post COVID-19 Rehabilitation Program’patients will be able to consult with Infectious Disease Experts, Intensivists and Mental Health Experts through video-tele consultations, to help resolve the residual impact of the infection. Post successful completion of treatment and discharge, under his program, patients are advised to undergo a series of tests within the first 7 days, so clinicians to evaluate progress, assess potential impact and subsequently treat the long or short term implications. These tests include a complete blood count (CBC) Echocardiogram (ECG), Random Blood Sugar, Chest X-ray, Liver Prolife (Sr. Bilirubin & SGOT), amongst others, varying on the severity of each case (mild to severe).

Led by Mr. Sandeep Guduru, Facility Director, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi- A Fortis Network Hospital, the Post COVID-19 Rehabilitation Program will be steered by Dr Farah Ingale, Director-Internal Medicine, DrChandrashekharTulsigeri, Sr. Consultant-Intensive Care, Dr Md.Shakeel, Consultant &HOD-Emergency MedicineandDr Sujata Chakraborty, Consultant Family Physician, along with Mental Health experts.

Speaking about the need and importance of the Post-COVID-19 Rehabilitation Program,Mr Sandeep Guduru, Facility Director, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi-A Fortis Network Hospital, said, “Doctors have observed lingering effects in patients who have beaten COVID-19, with a litany of psychological, physiological as well as neurological implications. The need to evaluate and treat these long-lasting morbidities is crucial in these patients.Over the past five months, our task force along with other medical and non-medical staff have been fervidly cared for over 900 COVID-19 patients. As we prepare for the ensuing wave of cases, the post-COVID-19 Program will help rehabilitate patient’s back into their daily lives, by providing timely assessment and intervention”.
