Dozee Raises INR 71 crore in Additional Funding Led by Gokul Rajaram; Set to Increase India’s Critical Care Capacity by 50%
50,000 step-down ICU beds to be installed in over 1000 hospitals by end of 2022
Dozee, a pioneer in Contactless Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) solutions, has raised INR 71 crore in an additional funding round led by Doordash’s Gokul Rajaram. The round also saw participation from existing investors Prime Venture Partners, 3one4 Capital, YourNest and other angel investors. The current funding comes at a time when the company has seen a strong adoption of its Remote Patient Monitoring Solution for Hospitals, the Dozee Pro, which converts any bed into a Step-down ICU at a fraction of cost in both public and private settings. The Dozee Pro has been installed in over 6,000 beds in 300 hospitals covering 40 districts across India to monitor patients continuously and to help doctors & nurses enhance patient care and clinical outcomes.
With this fresh funding, Dozee plans to solidify its leadership position in delivering connected HDUs with centralized patient monitoring and make critical care more easily accessible and available in Indian hospitals. The company will also use the funds to launch new products, continue with R&D and expand globally. Dozee has set an audacious goal of partnering with over 1000 hospitals across India to help them upgrade critical care infrastructure through remote patient monitoring. It plans to install more than 50,000 step-down ICU beds with its contactless sensor and set-up 24x7 Central Monitoring Cells in these hospitals, enabling them to quickly augment the much required HDUs and ICUs.
Hospitals are currently using Dozee’s platform to convert regular hospital bed into Step-Down ICU to continuously monitor a patient’s vitals (more than 100 times per hour) including heart rate, respiration rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, blood pressure and ECG. The AI-based Early Warning System notifies the critical care response teams of any abnormalities that may be detected before it becomes critical. The system improves the nursing efficiency by about 50% further improving the patient outcomes in the surgical wards. Dozee has monitored more than 50,000 patients, helping save thousands of lives by early identification of risk and health deterioration. Dozee even allows healthcare providers to remotely monitor patients’ vital signs, receive updates and deterioration alerts from home and other care settings outside the hospital. This model of continuum care delivery and monitoring is an innovation that Dozee will aim to scale out in partnership with leading Indian hospitals.
Dozee’s 24x7 Central Monitoring Cell in hospitals enables healthcare staff to monitor multiple patients remotely and continuously who were previously monitored manually only 3-4 times in a day. The Central Monitoring System helps save crucial nursing hours and, on an average, Dozee saves around five hours of quality nursing time per patient. Smart alerts can be set for every patient, helping doctors optimize treatment plans, focus on deteriorating patients and provide improved proactive care at scale.
Dozee, the brainchild of IIT graduates Mudit Dandwate and Gaurav Parchani has been developed after five years of deep research conducted in partnership with leading hospitals, notably NIMHANS, Sri Jayadeva Institute and AIIMS Jodhpur. Including the current funding round, the startup has raised over INR 139 crore. The company also recently acquired international regulatory certifications of IEC-60601 and ISO 27001, aimed towards global adoption of its product.
Dozee has also taken the The MillionICU initiative with the goal of enabling public hospitals to tide over the COVID-19 crisis in the short-term and bring about a rapid, long-term transformation in India’s public healthcare infrastructure. The initiative is an effort to leapfrog the critical health infrastructure and empower government hospitals with step-down ICU beds. The initiative aims to rapidly increase the number of HDUs with centralized patient monitoring in these hospitals and make critical care more accessible and available, even in the remotest part of the country. Through this initiative, Dozee is set to install 50,000 step-down ICU beds across India in the next 12 months and take it to 1 million in the next 3 years. The initiative has already benefited 32 public hospitals across 20 districts in India with more than 12000 patients being monitored and having saved 30000+ nursing hours.
