Neuberg Diagnostics and Dr. Jeyasekharan Trust host session on breast and ovarian tumor diagnostics.

Neuberg Diagnostics, in association with Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, hosted a comprehensive scientific session focusing on the diagnostic challenges of trucut biopsies and frozen sections of papillary breast neoplasms, at Nagercoil. The conference also focused on in-depth discussion on the perspectives of pathologists and oncologists on ovarian borderline tumors. The event brought together over 40 pathologists, oncologists, and other healthcare professionals from across Tamil Nadu, providing them a platform for a discussion on improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.

The session, led by Dr. Ramya Natarajan, Senior Consultant Oncopathologist and Head of Histopathology at Neuberg Diagnostics, highlighted key diagnostic considerations in breast and ovarian tumor cases and emphasized the diagnostic complexity of papillary lesions in breast, explaining that in trucut biopsies, determining whether a lesion is benign or malignant relies heavily on the distribution of the myoepithelial layer. For this reason, excision biopsy is often preferable for cystic breast lesions to allow for a more complete study.

Also addressed the unique challenges of diagnosing ovarian borderline tumors, which require extensive sampling to rule out any focus of invasion, as treatment strategies vary significantly. She clarified that in cases of ovarian borderline tumors, the presence of positive ascitic fluid cytology and extra-ovarian implants should not be interpreted as metastasis, thus impacting the approach to treatment and prognosis.

“Through collaborative sessions like these, we aim to bridge the gap between pathologists and oncologists, ensuring we not only enhance diagnostic accuracy but also improve patient outcomes,” said Dr. Ramya Natarajan. “Staying updated on evolving diagnostic techniques is essential for precise treatment planning and delivering high-quality patient care.”

Neuberg Diagnostics remains committed to advancing the field of diagnostics by fostering educational platforms that promote interdisciplinary cooperation and knowledge-sharing among healthcare professionals. These initiatives are part of Neuberg’s ongoing dedication to achieving excellence in diagnostics and supporting healthcare providers in delivering the best possible care for patients.
